Overall Album Score: 9.0 out of 10 Ohhhhhhhhhh, yesssssssssssss... This is THE ALBUM that I bought the moment it arrived on the shelves. And I thought it was soooooo awesome that I decided that it would be a great idea to go to a Bowie concert! .......... And, for about four months straight, I listened to this album *a lot* in anticipation of this concert. ...So, I already knew this album by heart before reviewing it! But, oh well! This is, indeed, a lesser album than Heathen, but it's still very very excellent. The songs here sound much more pop-oriented and thrusty than Heathen, yet they for the most part have that album's well-developed mentality regarding instrumentation quality. It might not have Heathen's surprisingly amazing resonance factor, but this is probably a more ENJOYABLE album. Oh man! I've listened to this album so many times that I can't really figure out much else to say about it. It has three especially great songs on it. "New Killer Star," "Pablo Picasso," and "Fall Dog Bombs the Moon." Other songs are great, too! There's only one that I really don't care for. And that's "The Loneliest Guy." Other than that, expect this to be yet another corker in the amazing Bowie discography. Overall Album Score: 9.0 out of 10 (Well, this isn't quite as great as Heathen was, but this is a very fun pop album just the same! BOWIE ROOLSSS!!!) Average Song Score: 9.0 (Great songs!!! Wonderful melodies from start to finish! Woohoo!) Album Tilt: 9.0 ("The Lonliest Guy" is a weak spot, but all in all, this is another mightily entertaining album from Bowie.) Artist Rating: 9.0 (Not only does this kick butt as a pop album, but the intricate instrumentation quality, left over from Heathen proves that Bowie wasn't taking these too lightly.) Track Reviews New Killer Star 10/10 This really ISSSSS a great song! Much more of a pop-rock thing than anything we saw in Heathen, this one has an absolutely catchy melody, a singalongable chorus, and even some interesting instrumentation! ... Is Bowie awesome? Yeeeeeahh. Pablo Picasso 10/10 An absolutely smashingly AWESOME song! The rhythm-section is wonderfully THRUSTY, the song is catchy and wonderful (a Modern Lovers cover). It even features sci-fi background instrumentals, which truly seem to be leftover from Heathen. More coolness! The Modern Lovers have never been so graced ... Well, their original song was awesome, of course, but this is completely different and it manages to kick more buttocks. Never Get Old 9/10 I always liked the rhythm of this one. It's all bold and brassy yet sounds utterly drugged up at the same time. And ... whoah ... Bowie wrote himself another phenomenally catchy song. This guy is back doing awesome stuff. And this is hardly a retread from his past ... this sounds nothing like he's done before! Even Heathen. The Loneliest Guy 7/10 This is the only song on this album that I never cared for. Sure it's got atmosphere, but it's kinda bleaaaak. Although, there is a melody! This ain't no "Eight Line Poem," thank goodness. It's still not great, though. ... He's better doing the thrusty stuff, anyway. Looking For Water 8.5/10 Again ... don't you just have to dig that instrumentation? ....... Whoahhhh ... It's great!! And the melody, again, is wonderfully catchy. The drums POUND, but that's all right. Still a great song. (This might have something to do with Bowie's role on Man Who Fell to Earth.) She'll Drive the Big Car 9/10 Wow! How can you deny that this is a catchy melody??? I'm pretty much humming this one down the streets! ... It's a very pleasant song, too. Ohhh yes. Pleasant. Catchy. Still appealing instrumentation. I swear! You can't EVER go wrong!!!! Days 9.5/10 The melodies just keep on coming and coming and coming ... This is a particular favorite of mine from Reality. This one not only manages to be absolutely wonderful in terms of melody and instrumentation, but it's also rather heartfelt! More goodness from the Bowieman. Fall Dog Bombs the Moon 10/10 This is probably the album's best melody. WOOWIEOWOOWOWOOWEOOOO!!!! ... I loooooveeeeeeee this song, too! Great everything!!! I don't want to write anything else about it. I just want to listen to it some more... mooooooorrrreeeeeeeeeee. Try Some, Buy Some 9/10 A sortuv little-known George Harrison tune is given the Bowie treatment in a rather heartfelt vocal performance. The melody, of course, was really great to begin with, and I really enjoy the soaring instrumentation. Reality 8.5/10 Hard and thrusty, Bowie delivers yet another awesomely rollicking song that is just ... really very much fun! ... WOOWOOOWOwowoowoWOOWOwoOWOOOO!!!! More stuff for me to get excited about ... oh, baby! ... This isn't one of the best songs of the album, certainly, but it's one of the album's more rockingful tracks. Bring Me the Disco King 8/10 Eh. Having nothing to do with disco (good thing), this is a rather overlong and totally unexpected jazz outing. Uhhh ... this is alright, I guess. Nothing special. David Bowie is the coooooolest, isn't he? Yeah, so send me your cool thoughts about the album here! |
