Disraeli Gears
Overall Album Score: 9.4 out of 10 Hello. Are you ready to be psyyychhhedddddddd with the psychedelic revolution, baby? ... I am! I've got out my tiny spectacles, my tie-dye T-shirt, my frilly leather vest jacket, and my red bandana, baby. And I've got this far out new album by Cream, baby, that's just far out, man! I want to invite this guy over my pad and we can roll some ... uhhh ... grape flavored fruit roll ups! Mmmmmm!! And so, this psyched-out creation has become one of the most essential rock albums from that period. Sure, this thing isn't pretty all the time, but there are a lot of really good songs on here! "Strange Brew," "Sunshine of Your Love," and "Swlabr" all pretty much tie as my favorites. I can't decide which one I like the best. "Strange Brew" has the best melody, "Sunshine of Your Love" has the best riff, and "Swlabr" is just so awesomely psychedelic that I can hardly contain myself. This album isn't pretty all the time, though. Heck, it's not really even a likable album. It'll certainly take some sinking in before you'll totally get the gist of it. And, such was the magic of the 60s! This type of music was popular back then! Any musician trying to do something deep, unusual and exciting today are shunned by lackluster album sales! Anyway, this is clearly one of the most essential rock albums of its developmental period. Your album collection cannot do without it! Yay!!!! And, I'll have to mention the band players here once, at least. Eric Clapton proves, once again, that he really is a guitar god. Ginger Baker is an absolutely rollicking drummer. And, as always Jack Bruce is ever-reliable. HOoooohohohooHOOHOhhhhhoohohoHOHOHOhoho@!!!!!! Overall Album Score: 9.4 out of 10 (Easily, this is one of the most essential 60s rock albums that you could own. It's at the helm of the psychedelic movement and it's pushing a new genre of rock, heavy metal.) Average Song Score: 9.2 (Really good songs! There are no totally weak tracks on here, and there are more classics than you can shake a stick at.) Album Tilt: 9.5 (I really have an odd affection for this album. I can't garner enthusiasm throughout but ... maybe it's just all those classic songs that do it.) Artist Rating: 9.5 (In terms of progressing rock-and-roll as an artform, this was there at the beginning ... pushing the hard-rock side of things.) Track Reviews Strange Brew 10/10 I was the last one left after the nuclear holocaust, eh. The whole world had been destroyed, like U.S. blew up Russia and Russia blew up U.S. Fortunately, I had been offworld at the time. There wasn't much to do. All the bowling alleys had been wrecked. So's I spent most of my time looking for beer. "Strange Brew" isn't only a great movie. It's a great song, too. This thing seems to me the perfect way to begin an album. It has a great riff, some nice noodling, and, best of all, a very good melody! (Even the lyrics give it a nice, drug-induced feel for the psychedelic experience of your life ... or something.) So, listen to this song, you hosers! Sunshine of Your Love 10/10 As my Imprisoned Uncle Morty used to say, the only thing better than a strange brew is a sunshine of your love. The riff to this one is classic, by the way. The riff is THE BEST, and I hear it ALL OVER THE PLACE. And ... yeah! This freaking song is so classic that I'm at a loss for words. CLASSIC!!!!!!!! World of Pain 9/10 More awesome psychedelia ... This one doesn't quite give me the same excited vibe that both "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love" managed to enact, but this is still a wonderful, kinda under-enthusiastic song. Dance the Night Away 9/10 I don't know what I'm talking about, of course, but this song is too psychedelic for its own good. What's the deeeeallllllllllll???????????? ... Well, I guess such is to be expected considering that this is one of the definitive psychedelic albums, but still! Arf! Blue Condition 8/10 Blue Condition--ing? I once had blue conditioning! It made my scalp sting! ... Oh, dear. This isn't a psychedelic song. It's a verrrry slow blues song. The vocal performance sounds bored (but that might be intentional) and the instrumentation is sloppy and gritty (again, that's probably intentional). It's not a bad song, of course, it's just not as special as some of the other songs on this wonderful ole' album. Tales of Brave Ulysses 9.5/10 Well, this decidedly isn't an amazing song, but it has everything that was ever cool about the psychedelic era intact including drug induced electric guitars! ... Also, this song is more exciting and it features some nice 'lectric guitar work. Swlabr 10/10 I might have no freaking clue what the title of this track means "Swwwwwwlabbberrrr!," but this sure is a fantastic song! And it talks about rainbows and how fantastic colors makes you feel good. HIPPIES ARE STUPID AND SHOULD BE SHOT!!!! ... but they sure can come up with fantastic music when they put their minds to it. We're Going Wrong 8.5/10 Dudes ... what's with these falsetto vocals? DUDES!!!!! WHAT IS WITH THESE FALSETTO VOCALS???????????????????????????????? This song is interesting, I'll say that at least. And it's psychedelic. I guess I should forgive it for that, huh? Outside Woman Blues 9/10 The blues! And it's pretty good blues, too! And ... uh ... BLUEESSSSSSS!!!! Blues about outside women is usually the best kind, too. I really enjoy the guitar work here. It's difficult to deny that these guys didn't greatly influence Led Zeppelin. Take it Back 9.5/10 More of that solid blues from that Eric Clapton person, who we all know and love. And this has a good riff, good guitar work, and there's even some harmonica! (I used to hate the harmonica, but that blessed little instrument really grew on me over the years.) This is more good stuff that is what rock's made out of. Mother's Lament 8.5/10 I guess they couldn't be bothered with being NORMAL psychopaths and so they end this with a poorly sung old-timey song put to a mere, goofily played piano. The strange brew finally took effect on these guys! WOHOOEOIHNOEEEEEEOOOOO!!! (I want some strange brew! FRINO!) I'smh feleing toot hgiht to read oyutr comments whcih canh ebier sent here..$&@*#&@*$#**&&$#^*$ |
