Say goodbye to this review and click on this link if you want to go to the main CREAM page ... Badbuy
Overall Album Score: 7.3 out of 10 Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... You don't really need to read this review. I pretty much agree with every other music reviewer on the Internet that this is a really weak Cream album. It's not really even an album. There are only three new songs on it. The rest of the album is filled up with live versions of "I'm So Glad," "Politician" and "Sitting on Top of the World." Certainly, Cream were amazing instrumentalists, but ... for some reason, I'm not always in the mood to listen to these songs strung out for so long. Besides which, they did the whole live thing better on Wheels of Fire, anyway. And they did the whole studio thing better on that album, too. The three new songs, that appear at the end of the album, aren't very impressive at all. "Doin' the Scrapyard Thing" is a good song, though, thank goodness. Not impressive. And it's not essential, either, unless you are a Cream fan or something. Goodbye! Overall Album Score: 7.3 out of 10 (The live tracks are kind of awesome if you enjoy that sort of thing. One of the studio songs is pretty good. "Doin' the Scrapyard Thing." Other than that ... this isn't exactly what I'd call a good Cream album.) Average Song Score: 8.0 (I decided this was a fair score ... um ...... The three studio tracks aren't very impressive. The live songs are only good if you like listening to overextened rock jams.) Album Tilt: 7.0 (This can be a chore to sit through.) Artist Rating: 7.0 (Literally, this is a half-assed follow-up to Wheels of Fire) Track Reviews THE LIVE PART THING- Okay, allegedly Cream is one of the best live bands ever. While I am not at all prepared to refute that statement (and ... there's probably no point, because it's true), I still don't think these are particularly GREAT live cuts. In fact ................. I don't know why I always get tricked reviewing these live tracks! Why can't Cream just write, like, more than three songs and make a new album full of it! I have to listen to all these OTHER songs again and ... ugh ... Well, that all said, I can certainly figure out worse things to do than to listen to these live versions of "I'm So Glad," "Politician," and "Sitting On Top of the World," such as memorizing the script of "Napoleon Dynamite" said backwards. But ... who, other than a freak-person would really want to? Clapton & Co. can jam with the best of them, but I get my kicks from stuff other than overlong rock jams, baby, such as crack. And ... and ........... and ................ Okay. These are good jams. All said. And, dudes, why'd you pick these songs to jam out with. Isn't your best song called "White Room?" ... Take that one out for a freaking 10 minute jam!!!!! And quit having impure thoughts about George Harrison's wife. That's unbecoming of a gentleman. While these are good jams, I don't really think they're all that essential to anybody other than the already-established Cream fan. (I mean ... it's easy to space out while listening to this ... am I wrong?) Nevertheless, since they can really jam out, I'm going to give this a 2+ on my live-album score. Maybe it would have gotten a 1-minus if they would have done a live version of "White Room" or "Strange Brew" or "Sunshine of Your Love" but ... eh ... it's all good. The New Stuff: Badge 8/10 Okay, after pretty much wasting your life listening to those live jams, Cream ever-so-graciously decided to write some new songs! And this one is less than three minutes long! I think this is a good song. It's not exactly an essential ditty for Cream, but it has a nice melody and it was executed well. Doin' that Scrapyard Thing 9.5/10 Ohhhhhh... this is more like it. Although, this one rings more of the White Album Beatles than Cream, but ... that's a good thing, you know! It's rather quirky and has a great melody. I enjoy this one immensely! What a Bringdown 7/10 Yeah ... Now I can see why Cream didn't want to make a whole 'nother album with new material, if these three songs were the best they could come up with! I don't like this song much at all. It's a ... uhhh ... letdown. It's sloppy and the melody isn't catchy whatsoever. I don't even care for the instrument playing. Boo. Well, I'm done reviewing Cream now. Cream me here. weezer327@hotmail.com (bill) received March 2, 2005 This album is an amzing piece of work. It does not get half teh credit it deserves. First the live tracks are literally golden, with a wonderful guitar solo on Im so Glad. The studio tracks also are great, although they may not be the direction people had wanted cream to go (heavy blues rock), they are still new and refreshing, adn experimental for a band rather than putting out the same old music with different words. Id give this album an 11! |
