We're going to launch the space program and do naughty things with movie stars... In Log We Rust, Ink
Overall Album Score: 8.6 out of 10 The Dead Kennedys return with more nonsense ... This is an EP and most of these songs are right around a minute long! Yet most of them catch that insane flavor that was so prevalent on Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. They take, more decisively, a political turn with this ... but all of them except for "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" doesn't actually manage damage! (You see, that one is 4:30 minutes long! And Jello Biafra isn't screaming the lyrics at the top of his lungs half the time.) I contend that anyone who finds this band offensive never actually looked at them. They play their songs loud (so the parents of 1981 were sure to hate this), but ... they seem harmless. We'll, perhaps they're too overly topical to ever do actually sound like they mean what they say. I don't take them seriously, anyway ... and that's good, because I don't want to listen to a punk band that demands me to take them seriously! They're no fun, you see! Now that we're in the new millennium and President Ronald Reagan entered into the eternal slumber he always dreamed about, this band really is irrelevant. But they're very fun. And funny. ... You've got to love the punk version of the "Rawhide" theme song, anyway!! Overall Album Score: 8.6 out of 10 (Brief songs! All intense, all bizarre ... sweet!) Average Song Score: 8.9 (More strange and intense punk! Woot!) Album Tilt: 8.5 (They know how to keep things intense here, I'll give them that! ... I'm hesitant to say that this is a great 'album.' Not that they were trying for it, anyway.) Artist Rating: 8.5 (Now *this* is a band with style! I'm hesitant to heap on extra points here, unfortunately.) Track Reviews Religious Vomit 8/10 Well, they don't waste any time! This song is barely over one minute long! I guess that's a good thing, because that's about the amount of time it takes for me to get sick of a song! ... Very insane, indeed. Fast paced, maniacal ... not too delightful ... Yep. This is the Dead Kennedys. Tipper Gore's favorite band. Moral Majority 9.5/10 Starts out as a ****MUCH**** quieter song than "Religious Vomit." Sort of echoey and uneventful then eventually the Mickey Mouse Club theme song pipes up (for whatever silly reason). Then the typical Dead Kennedys fastness pipes up! It's VERY entertaining this time, though. Hyperactive Child 9/10 Hardly even 30-seconds long this time! ... It might have been normal-length if it wasn't sped up! ... Yup. This is a normal Dead Kennedys song other than the length, which is short even for this album. And thank goodness it's a normal DK song! Kepone Factory 8/10 This is less enjoyable to me than some of the other songs on the album. The weird thing is that I can't pinpoint exactly what about this song that makes it any worse than the other ones! I just know that I'm not enjoying it as much. There's a funny cough at the end of this, though. Dog Bite 9/10 Animal noises! Woohoo!! I enjoy the vocal performances! ... And I like them on the rest of the song. Not just when they make the animal noises at the beginning of this. More quirky Dead Kennedys mayhem. Nazi Punks Fuck Off 8.5/10 The billionteenth 1-minute song on here! ... This sounds like the previous songs! Aaaah!! Except there's this really bad word in here. Really, it's quite naughty. No wonder this is Tipper Gore's favorite band. We've Got a Bigger Problem Now 10/10 ...And just to prove that they really were crazy, they insert this song that's not only 4:30 minutes long, but it starts up as a jazzy lounge song! ... I guess I can understand the lyrics better! ... Quite political! ... And then slowly but surely, it picks up to a regularish Dead Kennedys song. And then back to the loungey song. This is my favorite song on here, obviously! ... It's more accessible, developed and interesting, I guess. Rawhide 9.5/10 Hah!! A punk version of that old TV theme song! A better closer to an EP than anything else I can think of. Very funny. Be the bestest person ever and send me your thoughts about this album here. |
