Pat Garret & Billy the Kid want you to go back to the main Bob Dylan page! Pat Garret & Billy the Kid In Their Undergarments
Overall Album Score: 8.1 out of 10 Bob Dylan fans have got to be among the most satisfied people in the world! Really! This guy puts out eight billion albums ... and ... man! ... Even the ones that could be entirely throwaway (such as this soundtrack) are better than most musicians' regular albums! (For example, Madonna fans must be so unsatisfied that they've developed the habit of obsessively picking lint from underneath their toenails ever since 1986.) Nope! I definitely say that Dylan fans have got it all! Now, if you're reading this and you are not a Bob Dylan fan (who knows how you stumbled upon this page in the first place), know this now! Become a Dylan fan! That means you'll be buying his albums for years, and you'll never get enough of the guy ... Take Pat Garret & Billy the Kid for example. This might be one of the last Dylan albums that you'll ever consider buying ... 'cause it's not really an album! It has a small handful of sung tracks, to be sure, but the rest of it is a bunch of incidental music. But this is wonderful incidental music! If you're one who's into film soundtracks, then you might want to give this one a look ... 'Tis very entertaining, indeed. That all said, this album is throwaway! The only real keeper-of-a-Dylan song on here is "Knocking on Heaven's Door," which is an excellent tune, but it's filled with bunches of instrumentals that are based on the same theme. So ... it's not essential. Once you have all of Dylan's essential albums (and there's tons of them), you'll certainly find Pat Garret & Billy the Kid a delight. I might also mention that Dylan starred in this film as well. Overall Album Score: 8.1 out of 10 (Alright ... I was being a little bit nice to this one BECAUSE it is a film soundtrack, and I rated these songs with that in mind. So this 8.1 is a real 8.1 only for people who like soundtracks ... and don't particularly care that this isn't really a true Dylan rock album.) Average Song Score: 8.2 ("Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is the only truly special song that cannot be mistaken as "throwaway." ... But I wouldn't exactly call the other songs in here "throwaway," either.) Album Tilt: 8.0 (I might have knocked this down a few points just because it's a soundtrack ... Nevertheless, it IS pretty decent for a film soundtrack. Anyone who likes film soundtracks would probably enjoy this one. I'm betting.) Artist Rating: 8.0 (Again, I could very well have knocked it on its artistic rating, too, but this is a soundtrack ... it just wouldn't be fair!) Track Reviews Main Title Theme (Billy) 8.5/10 Well, I've listened to this album several times in a row just now, and I've already gotten a bit tired of this song! (Because the theme pops up again and again throughout the rest of the album.) Nevertheless, this calm, acoustic instrumental was very well performed and it is simply stellar opening title music. It's more than six minutes long and it actually gets better the longer it goes! ... How's that fer being musically suave? Cantina Theme (Workin' For the ) 7.5/10 More incidental music ... it's not very exciting ... but it's not supposed to be very exciting, you know! We're supposed to be listening to this while watching talkies. With that in mind, I didn't give it a bad score. Although, I certainly cannot give it a *good* score! It's quite dull. But at least it ain't quite over three minutes long. Billy 1 8/10 Dylan siiiiiiiiings! Although this is a good, typical Dylan song ... it's not really head-over-heels wonderful. It's the same theme that we've heard in the "Main Title Thingy" ... it's not a whole lot better when Dylan sings it. Bunkhouse Theme 8/10 Calm, lovely, acoustic, incidental, instrumentals, panties ... and pretty much inessential ... Nevertheless, I'm glad it was included on the album. All the true Dylan fans would probably be screaming bloody murder if it wasn't! River Theme 7/10 Old man riverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Oops! Wrong river theme! This river theme is another incidental piece of music that's um ... Well let me put it this way: it probably won't blow away your toupee or screw up your plastic surgery. Turkey Chase 9/10 I'm DANCIN' WITH THE HILLBILLIEEEEEEES! Yay! How cool is this? This is the first totally-cool instrumental that I've heard on here ... just because it's hillbillah muuzaak ... Now, if I only had a flask of moonshine, I would be set. Knockin' on Heaven's Door 10/10 Yay! This is another song that you can add on Bob's BIG list of classics. It's easily the best thing on here, and it's only two-and-a-half minutes long! Unfortunately, that completely keeps me from becoming as engaged into it as I might have. Oh well. It's still splendid. Final Theme 9/10 Not inappropriately enough, this is an instrumental version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" that's actually twice as long as that song was! ... No! Too bad! I still wanted the original song expanded! ... Oh wait. I keep on forgetting. This is a soundtrack. Not an album. Soundtracks are our friends. Not food. Billy 4 7.5/10 Okay, what the heck is going on. I missed something. Where was Billy 2? ... Billy 3? ... Billy 2.5? ... Billy Bob Thornton? ... ... Hey! Bobby's singing on this one! It doesn't strike me as being great, though. It might be better if you're watching the movie with it, I suppose. But it's still great. Remember. This is BOB DYLAN. He's the grand guru of privy masters. Billy 7 7.5/10 Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh Billlllllllllayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! ............ Sorry. Pat Garret and Billy the Kid both want you to leave your worthy comments about this album here! |
