If you want to do little, then you can not click on this link, I guess. You can just stay on this dumb page for the rest of eternity, if you like ... Or you could do a lot and click on this link. Do whichever one. See if I care. ... Oh, and you'd probably like to know that clicking on this link will take you back to the main Pixies page. ... I thought you would like that.

Poolittle

Overall Album Score: 9.3 out of 10

Okay, folks! I really don't see why Doolittle is so monumentally better than Surfer Rosa. (If that's what people are saying ... well, I know at least *some* people are saying that!) Indeed, I think both albums are pretty much equal in quality (exemplified in that they both received the exact same overall score ... and the exact same scores in the sub-categories, as well)! Both albums are rather similar in style, too, except Doolittle sounds ever slightly so more developed than Surfer Rosa.

The maturing thing could be a benefit or a detractor, but for the Pixies, it didn't matter! Both served up an awesome and fun album! ... and more coolness for you, the music fan, to enjoy.

My favorite song on here might just be the album's final track, "Gouge Away," but I also really like "La La Love You," "Debaser," and "Here Comes Your Man." As far as the rest of the tracks go, there's not *one* of them that fails even in the slightest. The most of the songs seemed to score a 9, which is pretty impressive for anybody. ... There were a few 8.5's and one 8, but ... heck! Those are great songs, too! ... Okay, enough of this overview. The Pixies are cool. That's all I've got to say here. On with the overall score grid thingy.

Overall Album Score: 9.3 out of 10 (That's right, folks, this one scored exactly the same as Surfer Rosa! ... Not that I did that particularly on purpose. But I do reckon that I enjoy both albums equally.)

Average Song Score: 9.0 (More great songs from the Pixies! ... Woohoo!)

Album Tilt: 9.5 (I get so much energy listening to this album. It's another memorable one!)

Artist Rating: 9.5 (The artistic integrity of The Pixies are still very high. This is more good, unique music to whet your whistle with.)

Track Reviews

Debaser 9.5/10

A spirited song! ... Very dirty and murky (with those distorted guitars and all) and a vocal performance that consists of mostly screaming. Oh yeah. This is pre-grunge all right! It's also kind of cool. No wonder grunge became popular!

Tame 9/10

I really like this one, too, even though it's not as cool as the previous song! The song is under two minutes, but it sure makes its name ... half of it consists of threatening whispering amidst a quiet backdrop and then some insane screaming. ... A good pre-grunge song! ... Of course, if you hate grunge, then ... be off with you.

Wave of Mutilation 8/10

Eh ... It's still pretty good in keeping up with their hard, distorted guitar sound, but ... this isn't particularly exciting.

I Bleed 8.5/10

Another good song! ... I really like the bizarre song structure of this one. It has a very strange melody ... it's pretty wild. And I like the instrumentation as well. That's threatening and fun all at the same time!

Here Comes Your Man 10/10

Whoah! ... This is a regular melody! Other than the rather simplistic qualities of this song, this isn't what I remember GRUNGE to be ... but that's probably because this is before the movement ever happened! The melody is pretty good and so is the riff and the general instrumentation. This is one of the most memorable songs on here.

Dead 8.5/10

This is another very nice proto-grunge song! The beat is menacing, the song is fun and ugly ... yup. Pretty good.

Monkey Gone to Heaven 8.5/10

This is a moderately paced song ... I don't know why this one would be any better than some of the other songs on here, but it's pretty good! ... I like the instrumentation quite a lot! ... I guess that's why The Pixies are well known, after all.

Mr. Grieves 9/10

Yeah ... this doesn't so much sound like pre-Nirvana, but pre-Barenaked Ladies! ... Oh well! This song is pretty dang good, though. The melody is among the albums only really existing ones! The instrumentation, though, isn't quite as impressive.

Crackity Jones 9/10

Funny name! ... And a pretty dang good song! ... It's just a fast paced thing with evil singing ... that's always fun to hear, I guess!

La La Love You 10/10

Okay, kick me in the face and call me Susan, but I really like this song! ... Those robotic chants of "I Love You" that they do at certain times of the song is really neat to me ... and I also like the riff a lot. A very fun song to listen to.

No. 13 Baby 9/10

This is a pretty good song, too! I can't say that it leaves much of a mark on me, but ... for a song that so long for the Pixies (it's three minutes and fifty seconds long! ... that's pretty much an epic!), it's a really good one! It engages me throughout its entire duration.

There Goes My Gun 9/10

Yet another really good pre-grunge song! ... yup.

Hey 9/10

Hey! This is another good song ... It's rather minimal, but it's catchy and fun to listen to. Again, I think the instrumentation is good, and I also like the vocal performance! ... This is, yet, more awesomeness from the Pixies.

Silver 8.5/10

This is a pretty unusual song ... even for the Pixies. It features a very slow, trudging rhythm and some high-pitched singing. It's not one of my favorites, but I do enjoy it.

Gouge Away 10/10

I really like this song! I like the dark, murky atmosphere of the song ... until it explodes to give us the chorus! ... This is really quite an excellent way to end an album ... and a brilliant album at that.
