Overall Album Score: 8.8 out of 10 YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! STEEEEVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S THE FREAKING BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK-AND-ROLL HALL OF FAME IN 1989!!!!!! STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! ...Sorry... but this is a real Stevie Wonder album, not some cash cow for Motown ... and ... it's kind of exciting, you know. ... even though this album only scored two-tenths of a point more than For Once in My Life. ... I never said he was perfect, you know! "Superwoman" pretty much tops everything (I heard) from Wonder in the past. ... I mean ... dudes ... Nothing else on this album really comes close to topping it. It's simply 8 minutes of pure AWESOMENESS!!! ... It's an enjoyable exercise in smooth soul with an utterly catchy melody. ... Classic Stevie. "Evil" is another excellent song on the album. It's one of the more succinct songs on here and is as uplifting as ... a raising platform. Everything else on the album is also great, but ... not too worthy of a mention here in this review up here. You have to go down there in the "Track Reviews" to read about them. ... It's not hard ... If you do that, I think you'll also notice that there are two 8-scoring songs in the album's second half. ... Yeah ... they're still freaking awesome, but ... not as strong as the rest of the album. And ... uhhh ... brought the overall score down a weeeeeeeee bit. STEEEEEEEEVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Overall Album Score: 8.8 out of 10 (Stevie Wonder's first REAL album is a REAL hoot! ... You can't help but love this freaking guy! The songs are enjoyable, and this album is utterly lovable.) Average Song Score: 8.9 (A superb set of songs from the most pleasantest singer-songwriter EVER ... basically.) Album Tilt: 8.5 (This is a very pleasant album to sit through. After I'm through, however, I don't necessarily feel like I listened to anything great ... but "Superwoman" is utterly fantastic. Weaker songs in the album's second half forces me to lower the rating, however.) Artist Rating: 9.0 (He's got to be one of the most unpretentious but utterly talented people in the business. He is one of the most effective singers at projecting his personality merely through his singing voice ... and what a wonderful personality he has! But is Music of My Mind artistic? ... Not really. But I'm super-happy that it's not!) Track Reviews Love Having You Around 9/10 Sing it, Stevie! Sing it! ... You're writing real songs, and ... this is seven minutes long and I'm loving every minute of it! ... Ohhhhhhh ... what a nice groove! Stevie seems so happy to be free here ... his vocals are so wonderfully happy displaying, at least a tiny bit, of happy soul. The instrument layering present in this song is quite alluring, too! The melody is nice and ... yeah ... SUPER SONG!!! Superwoman 10/10 Stevie knows how to sing it! ... Another extremely lengthy song (and this one packs on the ole smooth-soul vibe instead of the funk-vibe from Love Having You Around). (The latter half of this song is still smoothy-soul, but he also packs on a few very well-utilized synths in to make it all ... 70s and stuff.) But the melody on this one is really very catchy ... and you have just got to love listening to this guy sing the songs. He was like that in his old albums when Motown owned his soul ... but this is better because this is Stevie and nobody else. He's a happy sort, and he knows how to write happy songs and make them genuinely sound happy. Yeah ... this guy's pretty much a freaking pop-hero ... Those goofy Stevie Wonder fans have, like, a decent reason to exist. ... GOOD music, here, baby! I Love Every Little Thing About You 9/10 This song is less than four minutes. :-( ... AWWWWWWW!!!!! ... Yeah ... you've got to know who my freaking pop-music allegiances are when I complain about songs that are too short! ... But, yeah, this is another fantastic little soul-pop tune where Stevie gives it his all. Sweet Little Girl 8.5/10 ...Listen how those melodies and harmonies flow together so naturally in this song. ... Why hasn't this guy been writing his own songs earlier? ... Perhaps being suppressed so horribly throughout the 60s by The Man made this songwriting genyus come out so freaking strongly! ... That all said, this probably isn't the best song on here because ... well ... the whole thing isn't extremely catchy. Nevertheless, this is yet another fun Stevie Wonder song to listen to! Happier Than the Morning Sun 9/10 Man ... this guy's so freaking optimistic! It's great!! ... And Stevie's already showing quite a lot of eclecticism here ... whereas the other songs could either be classified as either funk or soul, this is an acoustic folk song! Yeah! ACOUSTIC! ... There's nothing really "soul" about this song whatsoever. ... And, it has tons of that happy feeling in it and a catchy melody, too. Girl Blue 8/10 Eh ... this song certainly has a nice enough melody ... I just wish the hooks were packed on a little thicker! (...Eh, he's certainly going to get better at the hook thing later on...) All in all, this is another fine Steve-y song to listen to, but ... not perfect. Seems So Long 8/10 ...Well, at least he put some of his least AWESOME songs at the end of his album! This is another one that needed some more HOOKS, but ... Stevie still sings on it, therefore it's still s-weet! Keep on Running 9/10 ALL RIGHT!!!!! Now here's a danceable song! ... Perhaps you might even want to call this a little pre-disco, or something. ... This actually sounds a bit more like an upbeat Elton John song than a pre-disco thing, though ... yeah. ... I can't complain about fun songs that are UPBEAT. ... Yeah ... and this song is awesomely upbeat. Coo. Evil 9.5/10 Oh, excuse me, Mr. Stevie "Vangelis" Wonder! ... What's with that freaking synth-intro? ... Not that I don't like synth-intros that are reminiscent of my favorite synth-person who only likes to use one name like "Madonna." ... But, sure enough, there's quite an uplifting soul tune to emerge out of it! (...Wonder even has a choir help him out at the end of this ... typically, I seem to dislike it when a musician goes and puts choirs in songs to make it uplifiting, but it was the perfect choice here...) ... Yeah, I don't know how this guy does it, but this was just an absolutely stellar way to end his album. I want more, dude! I want more! Ohhhhhh, I love your comments, too here! |
